To prepare the banding for your wood scissor block, you will need the following: block, banding, marking pins, needle, contrasting thread |
Wrap your banding tightly around your wood scissor block. Secure the ends with some marking pins, to hold it on the block. |
Place additional pins in each of the corners. |
Remove the banding from your block, and run some boldly colored thread through your fabric to show where the corners of your block are, and how large each of the sides is. You will be stitching a motif in each of these sections. Find your center for each section, and begin stitching. |
When all four motifs are stitched, you will need to get out your scissor block again. |
Wrap the fabric around the block, lining up the motifs, and secure with a pin. Your original basting lines should line up with each of the corners. Remove the banding from the block. Mark the far left and far right basting lines with a pin. Remove the basting thread. Using thread that matches your banding, stitch a line of backstitching where the basting thread was on the far right and left, where your banding will be sewn together. |
Trim your banding ½ inch from the backstitched lines. |
Using a matching thread, sew together the backstitched lines – one stitch at a time. This is the same technique that is used for assembling the biscornu. Secure your thread at the top and bottom with a small knot on the backside of the banding. |
Slide the banding over the block. Use a short length of thread to sew together the top and bottom of the banding, where the backstitched line didn’t reach. It is easier to do this after the banding is on the block, and it will give it a more finished look. |
Your block is now done! |
